Paquita is one of the jewels of the classical ballet repertoire, constantly resurrecting on the stages of world theatres. First performed at the Paris Opera (choreographer Joseph Mazilier) in 1846, a year later, in 1847, it was staged by the famous Frenchman M. Petipa at the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg and became the first work in the list of this choreographer's stunning legacy. This masterpiece still fascinates the audiences today, after almost two hundred years, with its pure beauty and traditional aesthetics. Its plot tells the story of a young girl Paquita during the Napoleonic Wars in Spain. Kidnapped by the Roma as an infant, at one point she learns from a medallion in her possession that she is noble. All the twists and turns of the plot end happily, and the audience receives as a gift a wonderful ballet performance with Spanish-style music and dances, images of the pure beauty of Grand Pas and positive emotions.
