Jonas Mekas "REQUIEM"

LNOBT Main Stage
Jonas Mekas "REQUIEM"

LNOBT together with the Contemporary Art Centre presents the screening of Jonas Mekas’ final film Requiem, accompanied by a live performance of G. Verdi's Requiem. The artist himself conceived the idea of showing the film with live sound of Verdi's monumental work, and as of now, the work has only been performed once in the world in this form, in New York, at the art space The Shed, which, together with one of the world's most famous curators, Hans Ulrich Obrist, commissioned this work by J. Mekas.

Curated by curator Edvardas Šumila, the event will take place on the occasion of Jonas Mekas Poetry Day, initiated by the G. Pompidou Centre in Paris (each year this day is dedicated to a different outstanding personality). Many institutions in France, Lithuania and all over the world are joining this important commemoration. In this way, the event also contributes to the initiatives of the Lithuanian season in France.

G. Verdi's masterpiece, which inspired Jonas Mekas, this time will also receive an exceptional performance: LNOBT’s orchestra and chorus will be conducted by Ričardas Šumila, the solo parts will be performed by the most prominent Lithuanian soloists Viktorija Miškūnaitė, Justina Gringytė, Edgaras Montvidas and Kostas Smoriginas.

The event is part of the World Poetry Day, which is initiated by the G. Pompidou Centre for Art and Culture in Paris and dedicated this year to Jonas Mekas
The event is part of Lithuania's season in France.
