The opening title card of this sentimental comedy says it is “a picture with a smile – and perhaps a tear.” The famous Charlie Chaplin character Tramp rescues an orphan from the streets and raises him as his own. The Tramp and the Kid makes a pair both playful and moving in this story of pancakes, shattered glass, fistfights, and dodging social services and policemen. An instant success in 1921, The Kid remains an innovative work of cinema and one of the audience's favourites among cinema classics.

“The soundtrack is inseparable from the action in this masterpiece of silent cinema by Charlie Chaplin. The orchestra's role is important here – it underlines the peaks of action and conveys the mood of different scenes. Performing live-to-picture is difficult but rewarding task: you must follow every second of the film, correspond to action, moods, and reactions precisely. Last year The Orchestra took upon the score of Circus with ardency and remembers this work with immense joy. Therefore, it awaits this year's performance with The Kid, which will surely bring a burst of laughter to the public.” (Modestas Barkauskas, Artistic Director St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra)

Director's biography:

Charlie Chaplin (1889–1977) is the icon of the silent movie era. He is best known for Little Tramp - the naive and lovable character, recognizable from a worn-out suit, bowler hat and a cane, who awkwardly stumbles in and out of random situations. Little Tramp appears in many of his movies, considered among the funniest and most popular of that time, like The Tramp (short, 1915), The Kid (1921), The Gold Rush (1925), City Lights (1931), Modern Times (1936).    The

Vilnius City Municipality St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra (artistic director and chief conductor – Modestas Barkauskas, honorary conductor – Donatas Katkus) is a collective widely known for its universality, professionalism, and artistic imagination. The orchestra was formed in 1994 by Prof. Donatas Katkus, its artistic director and conductor, who at first envisaged creating a baroque orchestra. The orchestra regularly collaborates with well-known Lithuanian and foreign collectives and soloists.
