A man fell off the mountain and died. A skilled detective investigating the circumstances of death gets instantly suspicious of the man's wife. She has a strong alibi but appears to be not shaken by the tragic loss. The detective starts following the woman, and in the haze of her charms loses track of what is real. Not only he but also the spectator is seduced by South Korean master Park Chan-wook in this mysterious vertigo.

“Femme fatale is the driving force of this stylish film noir, and the main protagonist seems to be obsessed with his desire. The cinema of Park Chan-wook with its baroque quality is meant for the big screen. Those who remember The Handmaiden would agree. Immense pleasure is guaranteed by genre, style, acting and the most masterful direction. This is exactly the film that makes you want to come back to the cinema and never leave again.” (Aistė Račaitytė)

World Premiere: Cannes Film Festival, Official Competition, 2022
Awards: Best Director, Cannes, 2022

Director's biography:

South Korean director, screenwriter and producer Park Chan-wook (b. 1963) studied psychology and worked as a film critic. He realised he wanted to become a director after watching Hitchcock's Vertigo. Park Chan-wook became a celebrated global auteur after he presented Oldboy (2003) at Cannes, where he was awarded Grand Prix. In this and following titles like Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005, Kino Pavasaris), Thirst (2009), his Hollywood debut Stoker (2013) and The Handmaiden (2016, Kino Pavasaris), as well as mini-series Little Drummer Girl (2018) the director has constructed a unique cinematic world with his taboo-breaking storytelling, fascinating characters and sensual visuals. Decision to Leave is his first feature after six years and a nod to his inspiration.
